Week 4 Reflection

July 28 - 31

This week I had my first informational interview (which you can read about on the right column), interviewed applicants for VEP, and began planning September's volunteer event with my team.

We had one workshop this week which went over Cover Letter Writing & Interview Tips. I was able to pick up some important interview tips, which is really nice to know because I always hope to leave a good first impression!

INFO INTERVIEW #1: MATTHEW N.,

NIKE HR ADVISOR

Nike

For my first informational interview, I had the chance to speak to Matthew, an HR Advisor at Nike WHQ.

Matthew has been working at Nike for over 4 years, starting off as a sales associate and working his way to become an HR Advisor. He works on the informative team which informs employees of their benefits/discounts, deals with payroll and employee needs/disruptions.

It seems like a job at Nike HQ is more of play than work; Nike values work culture, has an open space environment, and allows employees to go home once their job is complete and take breaks to play basketball- which is Matthew's favorite thing to do when things get boring on the clock, alongside playing on the tennis court. He especially enjoys his job because Nike's values and his personal values align together. In Matthew's field, they value personal skills such as communication, flexibility, creativity, and willingness to learn over education. Matthew's hopes and dreams for his future looks like being on a beach with a margarita in hand  But on a more realistic side, he wants to be satisfied with his life and for his family to happy, all that above the money.
